Two friends tumble about training for a mini-tri.
Okay so.
1. There’s a rumor that Thor Hushovd (Norway) (current world champ, hence jersey) and Philippe Gilbert (mmm philgil) are making a ‘pact’ that they’ll collaborate at the race sunday. Both said it’s rubbish, and the rumor probably only surfaced because a) they’re friends b) they’re both riding for BMC next year.
2. Speaking of PhilGil, here’s him talking about what the course will be like, so you’re prepared and know what the riders are doing!
3. I didn’t brief you on Mark Cavendish because I don’t like him. But he’s unfortunately one of the top contenders tomorrow. Problem: he sucks at anything that isn’t sprinting. But he also wins like.. every sprint ever. Also, he’s british, so you know what to look for.
4. Another person I forgot to mention; Peter Sagan (Slovakia). He’s won a lot this season as well but I always forget about him. HE’S 21 YEARS OLD! whut. He’s being all modest about winning though, which leads me to my next point.
5. All the riders are being SUPER modest about their chances on Sunday. Every single article is about a rider who says “nah, it’ll be really hard, I probably won’t win”. Thor, PhilGil, and Peter Sagan all said it and they’re the 3 favorites.
Also, they’re all talking about a sprint finish!!! (see philgil’s article about the cours [btw cycling lingo for the course = parcours, and since you don’t speak french it’s pronounced ‘par-coors’ like the beer. there now you can impress dustin!]) ANYWAY sorry I digress, the finish is going to be AWESOME. So i’m glad you’ve decided to stay for it :D
The World Championships is organized by country team. So for example Australia is sending a team, they have a team leader (as like a captain), and then several riders who will ride on the team for the country.
So now I’m not sure if the riders will wear their team jerseys, or if they will be wearing jerseys representing their COUNTRIES since it’s a national teamrace kind of thing versus a (sponsored) team race. When I googled “UCI road race worlds 2010” it showed pictures of riders wearing what looked like a hybrid jersey of both national colors/flag AND their normal sponsors. SO, we can both do more research and find out I suppose!
Relatedly, Jakob Fuglsang who rides for Leopard Trek is from Denmark (he’s the one with the really low hairline who everyone thinks is hot but I don’t agree) and everyone loves him, so if you hear his name or see his face, you’ll know who they’re talking about! He’s a good rider, he was in the TdF.
Here is an article on Denmark announcing their national team to ride at the race. Check back on this website especially throughout the week because I”m sure there’ll be TONS of info on it!
I am SO excited by the photos you posted on your blog about the stuff being set up for worlds, seriously that’s SO exciting!! I will try to be on facebook/read your blog whenever I have wifi this weekend :D I miss you and hope you have a great weekend, I will do some last minute touches to this when I get back from Boston sunday night but as for now I’ve given you the important people to look for, plus the road race isn’t til next saturday so we’ve got time :)
